COUSIN BETTY’S LETTER

Cousins of mine, ✓ At last I am able to tell you the financial result of the King and Queen Carnival. £l2O will be sent to the Crippled Children’s Society of Southland. I am very very proud of you all. The cause is a worthy one and I know your efforts are appreciated by the members of the society. Now that the Carnival is over, so many of my cousins have asked me “What shall we do next year?” We will not decide that until after Christmas, but if you have any ideas or suggestions let me have them in plenty of time. Do you like our Spring Page? You have all helped to make it a happy joyful page, and I am sure Mr Sun will smile a cheery smile when he sees it. Even* Tabitha, the Furry Kitten, has come to visit our columns, and has brought with her some Spring daisies. Are you pasting Tabitha in your scrap-book? Entries for the Scrap-book Competition will close on the last Tuesday in November, so assemble your pictures and cuttings and see what a splendid book you can make. Don’t you think it would be a good idea to give your entries to the hospital on Hospital Day? Some of my cousins have sent donations of books, and I am hoping there will be other parcels sent in from all over Southland. Which clan had a pink taffeta nightdress case as a competition prize at the Bazaar? If you will let me have it, I will send it to the winner, who lives in the country. I have diplomas belonging to Cousins Ann Saunders, Nita Hall, Isobel McKenzie, Bessie Hamilton and Marjorie O’Halloran. Will those cousins call for them as soon as possible? Peter Pencil is complaining once more. There were so many entries to be marked this week, and so many degrees and letters to be written that his cap has been sharpened again and again, and poor Peter is shrinking rapidly. He is afraid there will be nothing left of him very soon, so he has been squeaking very indignantly each time Percy Pencil-sharpener approached. Poor Peter ! Lost —a badge. Cousin Shirley Richards lost her badge in the vicinity of Mitchell street last week. Has anyone seen it? Somewhere a little badge is lying, waiting to be found. If you hear a small squeaking voice by your foot, look closely. It may be the badge, it may be a mouse, or it may be one of the busy spring fairies wanting your help. Your loving
