RESULTS OF MEDAL HANDICAP Following are the results of a golf medal handicap:—Women, Miss Reidy, 99—24 —75; men, R. Robertson, 91—26— 65. Miss Macauley won the junior women’s match. Tire following reductions in handicaps were made: Miss Reidy, 24 to 23; R. Robertson, 26 to 24. Following is the draw for the qualifying round of the club championship: Women:—Miss Reidy v. Mrs Biggar; Miss Roy v. Miss Maxwell; Mrs McDonald v. Mrs Heath; Miss Che wings v. Miss N. Young; Miss Giller v. Miss C. Macauley; Miss C. Young v. Miss Isaacs; Miss Nola Young v. Mrs Little. Men.—G. McKinna v. G. Cunningham; T. Giller v. W. Little; W. Young v. L. Barraclough; H. Heath v. P. Ogilvy; A. Partridge v. R. Scott; A. J. Earl v. L. Gilkison; R. Robertson a bye. PROTECTIVE WORK The Public Works Department is carrying out improvements to the protective works at the north end of the township, where further precautions against flooding are being taken. PERSONAL The Anglican Bishop of Dunedin (the Rt. Rev. W. Fitchett) visited Lumsden and conducted Confirmation at All Saints’ Church. Tire services at the Lumsden Presbyterian Church were conducted by the Rev. T. Tweedie, of Clinton. Mr A. Brash, of the Post and Telegraph Department’s staff at Lumsden, has received notice of his transfer to Otautau.
Miss Maxwell, of the Maternity Home, is spending a week’s leave in the north. She is being relieved by Sister H. Burnett, of the Southland Hospital, Invercargill. Mrs J. Campbell and Mrs B. Sims have returned from Timaru by car. Mr and Mrs L. Barraclough are on annual leave.
Mrs J. O’Sullivan, of Lumsden, is spending a holiday in Dunedin. Miss J. Ibbotson has returned to Lumsden after a holiday in Invercargill. Mrs R. F. Hayles, of Christchurch, has arrived in Lumsden and is the guest of her mother, Mrs G. F. Johnson.
Miss A. Hoffman has returned to Lumsden after competing in the women’s hockey championship at Blenheim. Miss L. White, the Plunket nurse, is ■on annual leave. She is being relieved by Miss J. Gordon. Mrs J. Stewart, of Five Rivers, has been spending a holiday in Gore. CRIB TOURNAMENT There was a good attendance at the fortnightly crib tournament, in the Oddfellows’ Hall. Mrs G. Small won the women’s prize, and the men’s prize was w r on by Mr C. Moloney. The consolation prizes went to Mrs A. McDonald and Mr G. Aitcheson. The prizes were donated by Mrs Ogilvy.
