Nightcaps TOW BOARD

WORK AT SWIMMING POOL

At the monthly meeting of the Nightcaps Town Board the following commissioners were present: Messrs W. Excell (chairman), T. Thomson, B. Rushton, F. Klemick and E. Mason. Communications dealing with suggested improvements to the road bend between Nightcaps and Wairio were received from the Minister of Mines (the Hon. P. C. Webb) and the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple). The letters stated that an improvement was desirable, but considering the relatively small amount of traffic over this road, the mattei' was not altogether urgent. However, said the Minister- of Public Works, the matter of a highways subsidy would receive careful attention.

The chairman said the reply from the Minister’ was not what had been expected. It would appear that a report from the district public works engineer was being awaited. It was agreed that the district engineer be interviewed. Donations to Bodies.

It was decided to donate £2 10/- each to the Nightcaps Library and the Plunket Society. Sketch plans were submitted of the dressing sheds and conveniences it was proposed to have erected at the swimming pool. It was decided to appoint an overseer and proceed with the immediate erection of conveniences, the dressing sheds to be erected later.

During the discussion of the picture committee’s report, the chairman said that accommodation had been taxed lately and serious consideration would have to be given to enlarging the hall. The matter was held over in the meantime.

Payment of Rates. The chairman stated that it was most satisfactory the way the rates were being paid so promptly. This must surely be an indication that better times were being experienced. Some few hours after the issue of the rate notices payments had been made and it was gratifying to record that the first payment made had been by a relief worker.
