LUNCHEON ON AWATEA
UNION COMPANY’S ENTERPRISE COMMENDED. (United Press Association.) Auckland, September 18. At a largely attended luncheon on board the trans-Tasman Awatea, tendered by the directors of the Union Steam Ship Company, the Mayor (Mr Ernest Davis) paid a tribute to the enterprise of the company. Mr Davis said that the Awatea’s entry into the trans-Tasman run should result in such a development of traffic as would encourage the company to build a sister ship. On behalf of the citizens he presented the commander (Captain A. H. Davey) with a handsome Maori carving as an emblem of goodwill.
Other speakers enthusiastically congratulated the company on its great enterprise.
