MARY ASTOR’S SUIT SETTLED

SENSATIONAL DIARY IMPOUNDED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Los Angeles, August 13. A settlement of the suit of the film star, Mary Astor, against her divorced husband, Dr Franklyn Thorpe, for the custody of their daughter, with the Judge concurring, was announced today. The mother will have the child for the nine school months and the father for the three vacation months. To the great relief of the film colony, the Judge stipulated that neither party should again institute litigation, and Mary Astor’s sensational private diary has been impounded by the Court, to be forever kept from the public.

The chief item of testimony in the suit was Mary Astor’s private diary, involving the names of prominent playwrights, actors and men of affairs. The revelations were so intimate that the moving picture industry made strenuous efforts to obtain a settlement of the case, fearing "an adverse reaction of the Legion of Decency.”
