Winton BASKETBALL

SENIOR TOURNAMENT A basketball tournament for Central District senior teams was played on the tennis courts at Winton. There was a fair attendance and several first class games were witnessed. The winning team was Rovers, which played consistently throughout, and was unbeaten during the day. The majority of the teams played to their best form, although Ry al Bush has given better displays. Results: —Ryal Bush 6 v. Spar Bush 2; Rovers 4 v. Winton 0; Oreti 5 v. Browns 3; Ryal Bush 6 v. Winton 5; Winton 7 v. Spar Bush 5; Rovers 6 v. Browns 3; Oreti 2 v. Ryal Bush 1; Rovers 3 v. Rovers was undefeated during the day, and Oreti finished in second place. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE There was . fair attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Winton Women’s Institute. Invitations were received for the birthdays of the Kauana and Winton branches of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. A knitting demonstration was given during the afternoon. The plasings in the competitions were: Outdoor bloom, Mrs H. A. Pierce 1, Mrs R. McDougall 2, Mrs J. Brown 3; indoor bloom, Miss J. McDougall 1, Mrs R. McDougall 2 and 3; covered coat-hanger, Mrs R.
