♦ Clash With Opposition LEADER’S THREAT OF RETALIATION (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Roc. 5.5 p.m.) London, June 14. The Danzig correspondent of The Daily Telegraph says that anxiety is growing after the death of a Nazi during a fight when Nazis attempted to break up an Opposition political meeting, in which over 50 were injured. Herr Foerster, the Nazi leader and virtual political dictator of Danzig, has issued a proclamation blaming the Opposition leaders—“whom I am obliged to tolerate under an international statute.” He added, speaking as if Germany’s might were behind him, that he would not permit the Germans of Danzig to be stirred up by these “corrupters of the people.” “Our Fuhrer shall not be insulted,” declared Herr Foerster. “We will ruthlessly oppose terrorism by the Opposition, and we will not allow ourserves to be attacked. The lives of our men, fighting for honest aims, high ideals and a great and free Germany, are more valuable than those treacherous subversive agitators who have no Fatherland.” The Opposition points out that it could not have Established any terror, as the Nazis possess all the power and also control the police and their own uniformed organizations. The Free City of Danzig (formerly a German port) was established under the Treaty of Versailles to create a port for Poland, on November 15. 1920. It is a sovereign and independent city and State, and in peace or war is under the protection of the League of Nations, which guarantees its Constitution. The Nazi Party, dominated by the influence'of Berlin, won 38 of the 72 seats in the Lower House (Volkstag in the election of May. 1933. This Government was dissolved in February. 1935, and in that elected in the following April were 43 Nazis and 29 Opposition. While the Nazis gained five seats they were five short of the two-thirds majority needed to revise the Constitution.
