WOMEN’S DIVISION

MORTON MAINS BRANCH. Mrs Warnock presided over a good attendance of members at the June meeting of the Morton Mains branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. She welcomed two new members. Mrs Hillis gave a demonstration on lamp-shade making and Mrs Blue and Miss Meredith instructed those present in the art of making crepe-paper flowers. Both demonstrations were followed with keen interest. The roll-call was “What do you think of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union?” In the competition, “a vase of chrysanthemums,” Miss Sheat was first, Miss Withington second and Mrs E. G. Sheat third. A display of pickles and sauces contained several new varieties. Mrs McNally and Misses McLay and Moss served afternoon tea after which, on the motion of Mrs McFadyen, the demonstrators were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Tlie July competitions will be: Bloom (marigold), light fruit cake and scones, and the roll call will be “a recipe for afternoon tea.” The dressmaking classes, now in their fourth week, are making good progress under Miss George.
