Weddings

DAVIDSON—McCALL. The wedding was solemnized in the Seaward Downs Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, June 3, of Isabel H. McCall, daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert McCall, Seaward Downs, to James D. Davidson, son of Mr and Mrs W. T. Davidson, Mataura Island. The Rev. R. D. McEwan officiated, and Mrs W. Wylie presided at the organ. The church was decorated with winter greenery, blue and white flowers and streamers. The bride wore a frock of ivory ring

velvet, made with a pouched bodice trimmed with pearls, the cowled neckline being caught to one side with a pearl clip. The skirt was close-fitting and slightly trained, and finished with a lame sash. Her embroidered tulie veil was fitted to a halo of orange blossom. She wore white brocaded velvet shoes and carried a sheaf of regal lilies and maidenjiair fern tied with white satin streamers.

Miss Winifred H. Roxburgh (Christchurch) was bridesmaid, and her frock was of blue angelskin lace, made on similar lines to the bride’s and finished with a blue velvet sash. Her headband was of blue and lemon velvet flowers. She wore blue brocaded velvet shoes and carried a bouquet of freesias, begonias, chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern finished with gold streamers. Mr W. N. L. Gregory, Clifton, was best man.

Some fifty guests assembled in the Seaward Downs hall for the reception. Mrs McCall received her guests wearing a frock of wine Afghalaine relieved with beige pleating and buttons. A navy blue coat and hat and a spray of orchids completed her ensemble. The bridegroom’s mother was dressed in black. Mr and Mrs Davidson’s future home will be at Mataura Island. In the evening a dance in honour of the bridal couple was held in the public hall, over 200 being present. The grand march was led by the bride and bridegroom. On behalf of the Basketball Club, Miss K. Morton presented the bride with a crystal canoe-shaped fruit dish. From the Bible Class she received an Empire vase. Finally, Mr C. Walsh, on behalf of the young men of the district, presented her with a bronze fireside kerb. Speeches were also made by Messrs W. McKeown, W. Bagrie and D. Tither. At intervals, items were given by Miss D. Weir and Messrs W. Rule and R. Tutty. Prior to his wedding the bridegroom was made the recipient of an oak chiming clock from the residents of Mataura Island. INSALL—SHIELS. Pink and white chrysanthemums decorated the Church of Christ, Teviot street, on Wednesday, June 10, when the wedding was solemnized of Florence Mary (Dolly), eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Shiels, Ness street, to Francis Roy, son of Mr and Mrs Insall, Princess street. Pastor Stafford performed the ceremony and Mr Robert Henry presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a slim frock of cream lace, with flowers round the neckline, full sleeves to the wrist and the skirt falling into a graceful train. The long tulle veil, which was worn over her face as she entered the church, fell from a coronet of orange blossom and was finished with silver thread rucking and sprays of orange blossom. She carried an arm bouquet of cream chrysanthemums, abutilons and pink geraniums. Her silver horse-shoe was the gift of Miss Joan Parfitt. The bride was attended by Miss Molly Holland and her sister, Miss Winifred Shiels, as bridesmaids. They wore twin frocks of peach taffetas made with full skirts, and cafe sleeves to the elbow. Their stitched hats were of the same material as the frocks and were finished with pink eye-veils. They carried Victorian posies of matching chrysanthemums and abutilons. Mr Albert Gately, of Otago Central, was best man, and Mr W. Insall, brother of the bridegroom, was groomsman. Mr R. Shiels and Mr P. Insall were ushers. Miss Alva Myres, of Kaitangita, sang a solo in the church during the signing of the register. The reception was held in the Country Club where the guests were received by Mrs Shiels, who wore a navy blue costume and hat with a fur stole, and a shoulder spray of freesias and winter ixias. Mrs Insall assisted the bride’s mother. She wore a navy blue tailored costume and hat and fur stole. Her spray was of gold chrysanthemums. For travelling the bride wore a navy blue tailored costume, navy peachbloom shovel hat, a fur stole and matching accessories. Mr and Mrs F. R. Insall will reside at Otautau.
