FRIESIAN BREEDERS
ANNUAL REPORT. “This year the Friesian breed of dairy cattle has more than held its own in Southland,” says the annual report of the Southland Friesian Breeders’ Association. “In the show rings there have been excellent entries which have given supporters every reason to be proud of the breed. Under all systems of production tests our cows have more than held their own with those of other breeds. Under C.O.R. testing our congratulations are extended to Messrs R. H. Dickie and A. and R. Udy. Mr Dickie won the class medals for the senior two-year-old class with Lauderdale Sylvia Beauty (18,866.71 b of milk and 676.091 b of fat); and the senior three-year-old class with Lauderdale Sylvia Colantha (22,217.81 b of milk and 8121 b of fat). Messrs A. and R. Udj* won the class medal for the senior four-year-old class with Lelburne Sylvia Monona Maude (20.0411 b of milk and 693.921 b of fat). Out of six classes three have been won by Southland breeders. The bull sale was held on November 8, and the entries for Friesians was considerably more than all the other breeds combined. The animals were forward in condition considering the hard winter. Though prices were in no way high, bulls of high butterfat backing met with a ready sale.”
