WINTON NOTES

SCHOOL PICNIC. (From Our Correspondent.) The annual combined schools’ picnic from the Winton district was held at Bluff. The excursionists totalled close on 800, some 350 travelling from Winton alone. At Argyle Park chain stepping competitions were held, the profits being returned to the children in prizes for sports events. In the afternoon the beach was crowded. On the journey to Bluff the committee took the opportunity of making a small presentation to Mr John Brown in appreciation of his valuable and gratuitous services in the past. Bowling. At the monthly meeting of the Winton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union the president, Mrs T. S. Smith, presided. As a mark of respect to the memory of the late King George, members stood for a few moments in silence. The president spoke of the housekeeping scheme, and also the dressmaking classes which had commenced during the month. Both were accomplishing good work. Mrs J. R. Hamilton then gave an in•teresting talk on some of her experiences during her recent tour of the Old Country.
