RAILWAY WORKERS
SERVICES RETAINED. (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, December 17. Forty men employed at Hillside Railway Workshops received notice that they were to be put off before Christmas. The matter was taken up by the Hon. F. Jones, who received a telegram from the Minister of Railways stating that arrangements had been made to retain the men employed at Otahuhu, Hutt and Hillside whose services it was proposed to dispense with when the shops closed for the holidays. The men concerned would be provided with work on the re-opening of the workshops on January 6.
