FALSE STATEMENT
“KIDNAPPED AND ROBBED.” (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 1.45 a.m.) Sydney, December 17. At the Casino Court William Connor, a solicitor’s clerk, aged 18, was committed for trial on a charge of “effecting public mischief by making a false statement to the police that he had been kidnapped and robbed of £30.” A message last Friday stated that detectives were investigating a story of kidnapping and robbery related by a youthful solicitor’s clerk who, while in possession of £3O, the property of a client of his employer, declared that he was taken away in a motor car, robbed and finally released in the North Coast town of Casino. A friendly motorist gave him a lift back to Sydney.
