FACTORY FIRE
OUTBREAK SOON SUPPRESSED. MAIN DAMAGE TO ROOF. A fair amount of damage, mostly confined to the roof of the building, was caused by an outbreak of fire in Broad. Small and Company’s furniture factory in Tyne street last night. The brigade was summoned by telephone call shortly after nine o’clock and when the two engines arrived on the scene it was found that the fire had seemed a fairly good hold. Fortunately there was only a slight breeze and prompt work by the brigadesmen soon had the outbreak suppressed. It is thought that the origin of the ■fire was near - the “Dutch oven” at the rear of the building where shavings are destroyed in the incinerator. The flames spread quickly to the roof which was nartially destroyed, while the heavy machinery in this rear portion also suffered considerably both from fire and water. All the practically finished furniture was in the front portion of the building and this stock was almost untouched.
