WOODLANDS NOTES

SALEYARDS COMPANY.

ANNUAL MEETING.

(From Our Correspondent.)

The annual meeting of the shareholders of Woodlands Saleyards Company was held in the office at Woodlands on Wednesday evening. Mr W. Clark presided. In moving the adoption of the annual statements of accounts for the year Mr Clark took the opportunity of briefly reviewing the activities of the company. He stated that this was the 38th annual balance-sheet of the company and as one of the original shareholders it gave him a great deal of satisfaction to be able to state that the revenue was slightly better than the previous year. He trusted that this improvement reflected better times and that it was only the beginning of more prosperous years which will be reflected in the company’s finances. The company like other organizations which depended on the farmer had been affected by the depression, but as a farmer he hoped that they had reached the turning point. The yards and property were in good order and the prospects for the future were bright. The directors had no recommendation to make in regard to the payment of a dividend this year, but Mr Clark reminded his hearers that the company had paid a dividend to the shareholders right through the slump years. In conclusion Mr Clark thanked the officers of the company for their splendid service during the past year. He made special mention of the work of the yardman Mr Duncan, and of the secretary, Mr C. J. Bigwood. He thanked the directors for their cooperation during the year. The revenue account shows a profit on the year’s working and the balancesheet shows the company in a sound position. The balance-sheet was adopted. In the election of directors the two retiring directors, Mr James Milne and Mr J. Trotter, jun., were re-elected for a further term to the directorate. Mr W. Clark was re-elected chairman of the company. Mr C. E. Borne, F.P.A.N.Z., was re-elected auditor.
