Creeks and watercourses have been very low for some time past and a good downpour will be a boon to miners as well as to the farming community. The closing competitions of the Garston Golf Club were held recently and visitors from the Lumsden Club were present. The winners of the foursome competition were Mrs McDonald (Lumsden) and ’Mr C. Stewart (Garston), and the winners of the respective competitions were as follows:—Ladies’ championship, Mrs J. Gordon; ringer competition, Miss McCaughan; ladies’ knock-out competition, Mrs W. Gordon; aggregate of three best medal rounds, Mrs Porteous; president’s trophy for most reduced handicap, Mrs J. Gordon; men’s championship, V. Gregory; men’s ringer, A. McCaughan; men’s knock-out competition, L. McLean.

The Garston Cricket Club played the opening match of the season with Athol and were defeated. Visiting Lumsden at the week-end Garston were successful in defeating the home team by 30 runs. Mr Peter McCormack has returned from an enjoyable visit to his home in the Isle of Skye and has much benefited in health from the sea voyage. Mr McCormack was met in Dunedin by Mrs McCormack and his daughter, Miss Kathie McCormack. They motored to their home, Closebum Station, Queenstown, for a short visit before taking up residence at Nokomai Station.
