EMPIRE GAMES

1938 FIXTURE FOR SYDNEY. AUSTRALIANS DELIGHTED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 11.55 p.m.) Sydney, November 5. The announcement that the British Empire Games will be held in Sydney in 1938 created a stir and great pleasure in sporting and athletic circles in all parts of Australia. Mr E. S. Marks, chairman of the Australian British Empire Games Committee, expressed delight. “It is wonderful news,” he said. “I feel sure the games would be conducted equally as well here as in any other part of the Empire. There is no doubt that Australia and New Zealand will provide bigger teams, which to some extent will compensate for the smaller teams which must be expected from distant parts of the Empire.” Mr Marks added that a meeting of the full Board of Control would be held in Sydney shortly to draw up a programme and regulations for submission to an Empire conference to be held in Berlin in 1936 during the Olympic Games.
