The Rocks’ queen carnival was brought to a close on Thursday evening, when a bazaar was held in the Empire Theatre. There was a record attendance of the public and the large and well stocked stalls were soon depleted of the miscellaneous assortment of goods. At about 10.30 p.m. the results were announced as follows: Miss Hopcroft (Country Princess), £2OB 14/7; Miss McKinnon (Sports Princess) £l6B 8/6; Miss R. Walker (League Princess), £lO7 2/-. The competitors were heartily applauded, and the chairman of each committee returned thanks for the support accorded the princesses during the carnival. At the conclusion, Mr J. A. Martin, the president of-the carnival committee, said the financial results were very satisfactory, seeing the carnival had been started just as the church people had completed one in aid of a presbytery

building fund. The money, as they were aware, would go towards improving bathing facilities at the Rocks, and it was to be hoped that the committee in charge would decide upon a building which would meet with the approval of both townspeople and visitors. It was announced that the crowning ceremony would take place in a fortnight’s time. Staying at Beach House are the following guests.—Mrs J. M. Watson and daughter (Invercargill), Miss Ewing (Isla Bank), Misses Teviotdale (Isla Barik), Mrs Russel (Winton), Mrs Winder (Invercargill), and Mr and Mrs Johnstone (Invercargill). 1.._
