APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Sydney, November 4. Admiral Sir Davis Murray Anderson, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Newfoundland, is to be the. new Governor of New South Wales in succession to Sir Alexander Hore-Ruthven. An official announcement will be made in the course of the next few days.

Sir David Murray Anderson, British admiral who became Governor of Newfoundland, was born in April, 1874, and after training in H.M.S. Britannia was appointed a midshipman in 1889. He served in the St. George, a depot ship for destroyers, and in 1895-6 he took part in a series of operations ashore in West Africa. For his services in the Brass River expedition he was specially promoted lieutenant. Receiving his commanclership in 1905, he was appointed an officer of the Royal yacht Victoria and Albert three years later. In IJIO he was awarded the M.V.O. and next year was made captain. In the early stages or the World War he was on the East African Station and in 1915 played a prominent part in the operations which led to the destruction of the German cruiser Konigsberg, his services being mentioned in despatches. At the conclusion of the war he was awarded the C.M.G. and in 1921 served as. A.D.C. to the King. Promoted rear-admiral in 1922. he was awarded the C.B. and given charge of operations on the Yangtse River. After being Commander-in-Chief of the China Station from 1925 Sir David Anderson had the command of the African Station from 1927 to 1929 when he was appointed Admiralty representative on the Permanent Advisory Committee of the League of Nations. Knighted (K.C.8.) in 1931, he was appointed Governor of Newfoundland n September 1932, in succession to Sir John Middleton. Among his decorations are Russian. Japanese. Danish ana Greek orders.
