STRAITS OF GIBRALTAR
AN ITALIAN SUGGESTION. SAME BASIS AS SUEZ. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, November 1. The diplomatic correspondent of The Manchester Guardian says that at the coming naval conference in London Italy intends to propose that the Straits of Gibraltar should be put on the same basis as the Suez Canal, quoting as a precedent the annex to the Washington Naval Treaty whereby America and Japan agreed not to fortify the islands they possess in the Pacific West of Hawaii.
