New Society Launched
“GREAT BRITAIN FASHION GROUP.”
The very latest society to be launched in London is the “Fashion Group of Great Britain,” in which are grouped together the leading spirits in the world of fashion. The idea is that there should be some central organization comprising representatives of the various fashion interests. The objects of this body would be to raise the tone in all matters connected with fashion, to formulate some kind of code for fashion workers, and, above all, to act as a bureau of information on changing trends. Manufacturers and retailers, designers, journalists, and all others connected with dress and beauty would be able to obtain advance news of forthcoming styles from such a group as this, composed of leaders in various departments of fashion. Regular bulletins will be issued under the auspices of the society for the use of members, and these will give authoritative information concerning coming style trends. Mrs Alison Settle, the editor of the English Vogue, was the moving spirit behind the formation of this London group. Among those present were fashion writers, store stylists, dress designers, fabric designers, publicity workers for fashion goods, hairdressers, interior decorators, beauty specialists, fashion florists, fashion photographers and artists, designers of handbags, corset and underwear specialists, and various representatives of other branches of this widespread industry. The subscription was fixed at three guineas a year, and it was decided to hold fortnightly meetings, a cocktail party to alternate with a luncheon. It was significant that the luncheon was to take the form of a buffet meal “since most of our members are dieting,” it was explained. Also, a buffet meal is more informal and friendly.
