EMPIRE PROBLEMS
SOLUTION BY UNION SUGGESTED. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, August 19. Sir Herbert Matthews, for over 30 years secretary of the Central and Associated Chambers of Agriculture, London, arrived to-day on a holiday visit. He said that he did not approve of the present policy of the British Government in attempting to control imports. Regulation should be by tariffs with a preference for the Dominions and Colonies. He hoped to see an Empire Customs . Union which, though the time was not yet ripe for it, would solve the problems that beset the Empire as a whole. He also advocated a one Empire currency.
