MENACED WITH RAZOR
CHRISTCHURCH ASSAULT. MAN SENT TO GAOL. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, August 19. A razor-slashing attack outside an hotel in Moorhouse Avenue on Saturday afternoon was described by the police in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, when George Wilson _ was charged with assault and with being a rogue and vagabond in that he solicited alms. He pleaded not guilty to each charge and was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment by Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M. Sub-Inspector McLean said Wilson was addicted to drink, and had one of the worst records that he knew of. On Saturday last at an hotel accused made a perfect nuisance of himself, cadging and begging in the bar. When a respectable man, a stranger to Wilson, tried to get away from him, Wilson imagined himself slighted and menaced him with an open razor. Had it not been for the arrival of Constable Wilson, the man might have been seriously injured.
