RIVERSDALE NOTES

GOLF. (From Our Correspondent.) The first round of the Riversdale Golf Club’s championship resulted as follows:— Ladies: Miss Austin defeated Mrs L. Cody, 10 and 8; Mrs J. R. Dunn beat Mrs H. Mackay, 6 and 5; Mrs James Kelly beat Mrs O’Shea, 8 and 7; Mrs J. McAlister beat Mrs McKeown, 1 up. Men: A. J. Austin beat J. Hodge, 8 and 7; E. O’Brien beat M. Windle, 5 and 4; J. Austin beat B. McCubbin, 1. up; J. McAlister beat John Kelly, 3 and 1. On Wednesday evening a party of 40 crib players journeyed to Lumsden to play a return match. After many keenly contested games it was announced that Riversdale had won with 153 games against 150. Supper was provided, after which Mr R. H. Matthews thanked the Lumsden team for their hospitality and the most enjoyable evening. On Saturday evening a euchre tourney in aid of the Plunket Society’s funds was held in the public hall. After an enjoyable evening’s play the winners were announced as follows: Ladies, Miss F.' Denniston 1, Mrs W. Wright 2; men, Mr B. Bannerman 1, Mr H. Mackay 2. After supper had been handed round a short dance was held to music supplied by Mrs Ibbtoson and Mr A. Duncan. Presbyterian Church. The annual meeting of the congregations of the Riversdale-Wendon parishes was held in the church on Friday evening. The Rev. J. Newlands presided over a crowded congregation. Mr. M. McLay, session clerk, read the session report for the year just closed. Mr George Kerr (treasurer) read the balance-sheet, which disclosed a satisfactory . credit balance oh the year’s workings, also that a substantial sum had been contributed for mission work. Mr Kerr then announced that through pressure of business he would be unable to carry on the duties of treasurer. Mr Newlands then read a minute of appreciation of Mr Kerr’s services during the past five years. The Session and managers, in thanking Mr Kerr for his labours, wished him health and trusted he would be spared for many years to further the work he loved. Mr Kerr thanked the sustentation
