MR SEMPLE’S STATEMENTS.
To the Editor. Sir,—Mr Semple has said that the editors of our papers “are paid to lie in the interests they represent—to he about anybody—.” This is a curious statement for a man to make who does not hesitate to create a false impression by innuendo in the interest of the political party he represents. A statement itself may be true but it is made in such a way as to deceive his hearers. A half-truth is very often more dangerous than a lie and half-truths are very favourite weapons in Mr Semple’s armoury.' As only one example of this halttruth method. Mr Semple stated that Mr Fraser’s expenses to London were paid by the Empire Parliamentary Association. This is quite true, but the whole truth, I believe, is that the delegates also get a grant of £2OO sterling
(£249 N:Z.) from our .public funds. No one could object to this delegation nor to the grant of £249 (N.Z.), but it obviously did not suit his case for Mr Semple to disclose the whole truth. He should remember that “those who live in.glass-houses,” etc. —I am, etc., “JOHN SIMPLE.”
