Mr W. Middlemiss, of Dunedin, returned home by last evening’s express. The Hon. Thomas O’Byrne, M.L.C., left for Christchurch by last evening’s express.

Mr W. Grieve returned by Saturday evening’s express after a visit to Auckland.

M C. J. L. White, of Dunedin, who was a visitor to Invercargill over the week-end, returned, north by the express last evening. Tire members of the Dunedin Orphans’ Club who were guests of the local club at a social evening on Saturday night returned north last evening. The many friends of Mr D. V. Gain, who took a sudden seizure at Milton on Thursday evening, will be glad to learn that he is making a good recovery.

Mr W. Bringans, Mayor of Alexandra, was a visitor to Mataura during the week and was present at the Revue Society’s performance on Thursday evening, Mr Bringans’ son being the producer. Mr P. A. de la Perrelle. M.P., acting under medical advice, will not contest the Awarua seat at the forthcoming elections. Mr Perrelle first entered Parliament in 1922 and again in 1928, when he joined Sir Joseph Ward’s Cabinet, holding the portfolios of Minister of Internal Affairs and of the Tourists’ Department. Upon Sir Joseph Ward’s death he was allotted these portfolios in the Forbes Government, together with that of Industries and Commerce. When the depression came at the end of 1931 he, with others, voluntarily relinquished Cabinet rank to permit 'of the Coalition Government being formed, and has been an active member of the Government Party ever since.
