WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. (From Our Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held in the hall on Thursday afternoon. Mrs E. Kingsbury (vice president.) presided and stated that the president had left for the Dominion Conference in Auckland. It was decided to order £2 worth of goods from the Christchurch Disabled Soldiers. The visiting committee reported having visited three sick members and Mesdames W. C. Butler and R. H. Matthews were appointed a visiting committee for August. The balancesheet in connection with the recent birthday party disclosed a credit of £7 which was considered satisfactory. An invitation from the Wendon W.D. The competition for the afternoon was knitting , many beautiful woollen articles being on display. At the August meeting members from the Gore branch will be present to give addresses. The roll-call was “An Irish Story” which disclosed much Irish wit. An interesting debate was then held the subject chosen being “Should Women Propose?” The leaders of the debate were Mesdames L. Both leaders gave extremely good interpretations of their aspects of the subject showing that time and thought had been expended to bring forth various aspects of the case. Supporting remarks being made affirmatively and negatively from the parents’, Government’s, and jewellers’ points of view. After the leaders had summed up, the judges retired for a few minutes and subsequently gave their decision in favour of the negative side. Mesdames J. Stevenson and A. Eiichre Party. The first of a series of euchre evenings in aid of the Plunket Society’s funds, was held in the hall on Saturday, when a good number assembled to participate in the games.
