PORT OF SYDNEY
RECORD YEAR EXPERIENCED. IMPROVEMENT IN TRADE. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Sydney, July 20. The volume of shipping which entered the port of Sydney during the year ended June 30 last was the highest in the history of the port. The imports increased considerably, and the improvement in the volume of trade was reflected in the wharfage revenue derived. Although the rates have not been altered the increase in revenue from overseas trade amounted to 22 per cent, over the previous year. An analysis of the official records of the Sydney Harbour Trust reveals that the tonnage that entered Sydney last year was 17,586,164, which exceeded the figure of 1927, the previous record year, by 1,059,366 tons.
