Calling at Dannevirke on his ViceRegal tour of Southern Hawkes Bay, the Governor-General and Viscountess Galway were accorded a civic reception in the Town Hall, which was used for the first time since the earthquake 16 months ago. The building was crowded and there was a big overflow. The address of welcome on behalf of the Borough and Dannevirke County were read by the Mayor, Mr E. Gibbard, Sir Alfred Ransom, Acting-Prime Minister and member for the district supplementing the official welcome, referring to changes in the district since the advent of the first Danish settlers some 70 years ago.
