COMING SESSION
“SHORT AND SWEET” STATEMENT BY MINISTER MAIN PROBLEMS DISPOSED OF (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, July 19. An indication that the coming session of Parliament, to open on August 29, is likely to be “short and sweet,” was given by the Hon. A. Hamilton on his arrival to-day on a brief visit. He said that all the main problems had been disposed of last session, and he did not know of any important policy matters that would be brought down next session. The session would be a normal one, continuing through September, October, and possibly, into early November. Asked concerning possible further restoration of the Civil Service salary cuts, Mr Hamilton said he was unable to voice any opinion. Such matters depended on the financial position, and there were people who said general taxation should first be reduced. The whole position would have to be sized up later. Questioned concerning the possibility of an alteration to the electoral laws, Mr Hamilton said he had not discussed it, and it had not been formally discussed by Cabinet. “I don’t think any news could be better, unless it were news of a general rise in the prices for primary produce.” said the Minister in referring to the meat agreement.
