WHEELBARROW DERBY
COMPETITORS LOSING WEIGHT. (United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) Melbourne, June 17. Sunday’s journey in the “Wheelbarrow Derby” was through hail and rain with the temperature never far above freezing point. Mr Parkinson is a stone lighter than when he began, while Mr Evans has lost eight pounds. PARKINSON GROWING WEARY. (United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 1.10 a.m.) Melbourne, June 17. In the wheelbarrow marathon Mr Parkinson covered 11 miles to-day. He showed signs of weariness. Mr Evans’s chief diversion is goading Mr Parkinson to greater effort. Residents en route are treating the men hospitably. The “Wheelbarrow Derby” for £2O aside began at Beechworth on Saturday in the presence of a tremendous crowd. Of two prominent citizens of Beechworth, Messrs T. Parkinson and S. Evans, the former undertook to push the latter from Beechworth to Mount Buffalo Chalet, 50} miles, in eight days in an ordinary wheelbarrow.
