TAXI FARES

INCREASE IN CHRISTCHURCH. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, June 11. The Christchurch City Council tonight adopted a recommendation which will have the effect of increasing taxi fares. Recently in order, as it was stated, to mitigate the effects of fierce competition, the council fixed minimum fares. This led to a reduction of the business and one association of ownerdrivers set up an organization of suburban depots or stands and charged fares one way only. This increased business at once. The council s decision to-night was .that fares must be charged both ways.
