RAILWAY TRAFFIC

SOUTHLAND DISTRICT. IMPROVEMENT NOTED. Inquiries at the district railway traffic manager’s office yesterday elicited the infox-mation that the Southland district, in common with other districts throughout the Dominion, is sharing in the improvement in railway traffic that has been taking place for some months past. So far as Southland is concerned, statistics show that the net increase, in comparison with the corresponding period last year, has amounted to £5318 since April 1, 1935—the commencement of the financial years. The following comparative return of traffic in the Southland section for the week ending June 8 last (compared with the same week in 1934) is interesting:—

The total revenue for the week was £9571 as against £7194 in 1934, an increase of £2377.
