CENTRAL DISTRICT. DRAW FOR WEDNESDAY. (From Our Correspondent.) The,draw for the junior basketball tournament to be held at Winton on .Wednesday is as follows:— First round.—Browns (scr) v. Limehills (rec. 2) at 2 p.m. (Mr McKenzie referee); Rovers (rec. 2) v. Winton (rec. 5) at 2.15 p.m.; Spar Bush (scr) v. High School (rec. 3) at 3.15 p.m.; Otapiri a bye. At 2.30 p.m. the Rovers—Ryal Bush senior game will be played at the Winton tennis courts. Mr R. Reid has been appointed referee. AWARUA SUB-ASSOCIATION. (Notes by “Spectator.”) The competition for the Emerson Shield is interesting this year. At present Seaward Downs, who were only an average combination last year, are at the head of the competition ladder. Their wins in both evening tournaments so far held, have been popular and well deserved. They appear all very fit and the deciding factor in most of their matches is their superior combination. The Palmer sisters have played some outstanding games. Rimu, last year’s champions, have had their combination spoilt by alteration of players, but yet may be one of the teams in the final at the end of the season.

Last week’s games were postponed on account of the Indian Hockey team match in Invercargill and perhaps it was just as well, as where there are only grass courts available, conditions were not good on Saturday. Morton Mains have a fair team which with better combination would lose very few matches. Their defences always appear to play well, but then a team is only as effective as its shoots and further to be effective, the shoots must see that ball often from their centres.

Most players by now realize that it pays well to take an extra change of clothing as, riding home in damp clothes after a strenuous game will soon spoil anyone’s enthusiasm and really enthusiasm is everything when the team depends on you. The Woodlands teams have been showing improvement in their matches. It will be interesting for them to learn that one of their stars of last year’s team, in the person of Rita Burt, has won her colours in hockey in Dunedin and played for Otago against Eastern Southland recently. One of their present referees, Mr W. Barraclough won his spurs in men’s hockey on Saturday when he played for Southland against India. Basketball and hockey must have something in common. WRESTLING KRUSKAMP DISQUALIFIED. (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, June 17. The professional wrestling contest staged here this evening between Hardy Kruskamp (15.2) and Cy Williams (16.5) came.to an unexpected end, the police refusing to allow the bout to continue after Williams had been awarded the decision on a foul. The bout was fast and clean to the third round, when Police Superintendent Fraser instructed the referee to award a penalty fall against Williams for twice throwing Kruskamp through the ropes. This started the trouble. As soon as Kruskamp entered the ring, he sailed in with everything he possessed and, slamming Williams to the canvas, landed in with half a dozen vicious flying kicks. The referee attempted to pull him off, but Kruskamp threw him across the ring and the referee disqualified him.and gave the bout to Williams. BLOMFIELD DEFEATS NARBARES (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, June 17. In a lively bout at the Town Hall, L. Blomfield, the New Zealand heavyweight wrestler, defeated L. Narbares, the American, by two falls to one, the match ending early in the sixth round.

A good attendance of spectators was thoroughly entertained by the wrestlers who worked hard for the greater part of the time and revealed a wide variety of holds. Narbares secured the first fall in the third round by a submission after punishing his opponent with a series of powerful short arm scissors. Blomfield evened in the fifth round gaining a submission fall with a Boston Crab and he secured the deciding fall in the sixth round with the same hold.
