SOCCER SELECTIONS.

To the Editor. Sir,—ln your issue of June 11 I note in the Southland Football Associations report that fifteen players have been selected to go into training for the match with Otago. To my mind, the selection has not justified the change from one selector to three. I think that in respect to this the Southland Association occupy a unique position, as in all other centres both for Rugby and Association, there is only one selector functioning. I am inclined to believe that the change over from one selector to three was rather the result of personal feelings than lack of ability on the part of the late sole selector. _ As for the fifteen players selected, m my opinion they aFe not the best that Southland can produce, and if the interests of “soccer” generally are to be served, then alterations will have to be made in the selected players. The following team would not only represent Southland worthily, but would give the Otago team a tussle such as they haven’t had in the las three, years:— Goalkeeper. H. Pay (Southern); right back. O’Halleran (Rovers); left back, W. Adamson (Southern); right ha fback, D. Kerr (Southern); centre halfback, E. Hobbs (Southern); left halfback, J. MacMurdo (Corinthians); outside right, W. Dymock (Corinthians); inside right, W. Reddington (Corinthians): centre forward, L. O’Rorke (Corinthians), who has represented Otago in that position; inside left, D. Morrison (Southern); outside left, Heenan (Corinthians). EmergenciesM. O’Rorke (Corinthians). Batchelor (Central), D. Morrison (Corinthians) and MacDonald (Southern). The above team trained and fit would give Otago the surprise of their lives, and what is more . important, would create a bit more interest locally in “soccer.”—l am, etc., “DEFEAT OTAGO.”
