TOKANUI NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.) The first of the winter euchre evenings conducted by the Quarry Hills Hall Committee was held in the hall last Friday evening. There was a good attendance. The prizes were won as follows: Ladies, Miss Margaret Lamb; men, Mr W. Young. After the euchre finished dancing was indulged in, music being supplied by Mr and Mrs McIntosh and Mr J. Mainland. Extras were played by Mr O. Crooks, of Invercargill. On Saturday the j'unior football team met Gorge Road on the home ground. Both teams were unable to field a full team, but the game was evenly contested. The visitors won by a narrow margin, the scores being 11—9. W. Excell scored a try for the home team and G. Gregg kicked two penalty goals. Mr Mitchell controlled the game. The hockey team travelled to Kapuka and defeated Kapuka by two goals to nil. M. McEwan and R. Leith scored. Miss M. McWilliams has been appointed head teacher of the local School and is expected to take up her duties on July 1. Miss M. McEwan and Miss R. Leith spent the week-end at Kapuka.
