BOX PLAN OPEN

FOUR BRIGHT PLAYS LITTLE SOUTHLANDERS’ EFFORT COMING ATTRACTION The box plan is now open for the fourth recital of plays written and played by that bright band of local children known as Little Southlanders, contributors to the Children’s Page of the Southland Times. The first time they appeared as entertainers, so enthusiastic was the reception given their presentation of three plays that the performance had to be repeated. In 1928 their performance consisted of four of their own plays, which showed to two packed houses in the Municipal Theatre. In 1930 they produced two plays, again showing foi- two nights. This year they have become more ambitious and will present next Thursday and Friday four plays nightly. The Little Southlanders whose plays will be performed are Cousins Edith Mclnnes. Eileen Mclntosh, Desmond Stone and Peter Ferguson. “Rosebuds and Royalty,” by Cousin Edith Mclnnes, tells of Miss Lavender, who introduces the children at her party to Flowerland, where the Rose, who is Queen of the Garden, and the Sweet Pea, a social climber, are quarrelling. They are singing children, the cousins in this play, and their feet dance in time to their laughter. “Doubloons and Dreams,” by Cousin Desmond Stone, concerns the rollicking, boisterous smugglers in w-hom the dreamy boy, Keith, so firmly believes. Cousin Eileen Mclntosh’s play, “The Photo,” shows an adult touch. It concerns the rescuing of a girl from the clutches of thieves, through the medium of a photograph. “A Damsel in Distress” was written by Cousin Peter Ferguson in satirical vein, and there are plenty of opportunities for comedy in this story of mediaeval knights; while a talking steed plays a prominent part. The children are helped very considerably by the presence of a large orchestra under the leadership of Mr Gordon Lindsay. The proceeds are to go towards the Karitane-Hunt Hospital. Tickets may be obtained at Charles Begg and Company. Esk street, where the box plan may be seen, or at the Southland Times Office, Esk street.
