SUNDAY ISLAND THREE MEN LANDED A CHEERY PARTY (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, June 12. The Auckland Yacht Ngataki has returned from Sunday Island where it landed Messrs Alfred Bacon and two others who proposed to live there. The Ngataki’s owner said to-day that Mr Bacon had wanted for a long time to return to the Island where he lived with his parents over 40 years ago and later, with Messrs C. H. Parker and JAshworth. Parker had died of tetanus and. Messrs Bacon and Ashworth were brought back by the Government steamer Hinemoa nine years ago. Mr Wray said that Mr Bacon was delighted when he (Mr Wray) agreed to take him back. Mr Bacon mtroduceo. two companions, but he (Mr Wray) did not remember their names. Une was called Bruce and the other Ginger. They brought on board corrugated iron with which to construct a shelter, some stores, pots and pans and two Alsatian dogs which they hoped would help in exterminating the large rats on the island. , _ , The Ngataki’s trip to the Island was stormy and occupied nine days. It was found necessary to heave to one nignt and batten down everything moveable. At the Island the days were sunny and the men wore only shorts. Mr Bacon and his two companions were landed and Mr Wray spent a few hours ashore gathering oranges from Mr Bacons property. The three men seemed anxious to settle down to a life of isolation and waved a cheery farewell when the Ngataki sailed. She reached Deep Water Cove after five days. ’Mr Wray plans to cruise to a number or little known islands in the Pacific and will sail again in about a month. #
