SHIRT ON A STATUE
INCIDENTS IN GALWAY CITY. A PLATFORM COLLAPSES. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, June 10. A pleasant Sunday afternoon was spent in Galway City when a statue commemorating Padraig O’Conaire, scholar, author, and philosopher, was unveiled. The gravity of the proceedings was upset by the discovery that a practical joker with leanings towards General O’Duffy had put a blue shirt on the statue. The meeting had barely composed itself when the platform, bearing Mr de Valera and 30 other notable people, collapsed, precipitating them in a struggling heap. Nobody was seriously injured, and Mr de Valera was unhurt.
