Mrs J. H. Brown, Jetty Street, has returned from Waimea.

Mrs and Miss Tennant. Christchurch, have been the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Witsey. Miss Alice Bain is spending a few weeks’ holiday at Lumsden. Nurse Carr, formerly of Oramia, is visiting friends in the district. Sister McEwan is spending a holiday in Christchurch. Miss Gedney has been spending a few days in Invercargill. The members of the Thombury P.W.M.U. met at Miss McLean’s residence to make a presentation to Mrs Albert Officer, who, has ably filled the position of secretary to the organization for some time. There was a representative attendance, and the afternoon passed pleasantly with musical items, etc. In asking her acceptance of a handsome hand bag, Mr Mitchell referred to the long and faithful service given by the guest to church matters and concluded by expressing the hope that she would long be spared to continue the good work. , Mr and Mrs J. Macdonald, of Dunedin, who 'have been spending a few days in the south, have returned. Mrs John Leary and family, Wellington, are visiting their relations, Mrs and Miss Marnane, Palmerston Street.

WEDDINGS. , , CUSSENS—WITSEY. A large number of friends and relatives asesmbled in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Riverton, on Monday, when Beatrice Irene, daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Witsey, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Cyril, eldest son of' Mrs Cussens. The Rev. C. N. Luker officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father was nicely attired in white satin, wearing the usual veil and orange blossom. She was attended by Miss Francis Witsey (sister of the bride) and Miss Maida Cussens, as bridesmaids. The former wore a blue georgette and the latter, a pink georgette, both carrying bouquets with hair bands to match. The bride’s cousin acted as flower girl and wore a pink satin frock. Mr H. Pope carried out the duties of best man. After the ceremony a large number sat down to the wedding breakfast, which was held in MacDougall's tea rooms, where the customary toasts were duly honoured. The couple were ,the recipients of many useful presents. HAIG—TRAIL. A wedding which caused a considerable amount of interest was solemnized at the Riverton Methodist Church at 9.30 a.m. on Wednesday, sth inst, when Vera Constance, second eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank J. Trail, “The Highlands,” Riverton, was united in the bonds of matrimony to Clifford, only son of Mr and Mrs J. R.

Haig, Waipango. Rev. W, Parker officiated. To the strains of Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” played by Mrs Wesley Parker, the bride entered the church on the arm of her father. She was attired in a gown of ivory crepe satin beaute inlet with silver lame, and the embroidered circular veil was held in place with clusters of orange blossom and she carried a shower bouquet of . white chrysanthemums, daisies and maiden hair fern. The bride, who was attended by her sister Gwen, wore a gown of powder-blue loop-weave crepe with head band to match, and wore silver kid shoes and hose to tone. She carried a shower bouquet of pink daisies, myrtle and maiden-hair fem. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr W. D. Foley. After the ceremony a reception was held in the Sunday School Hall. The bride’s mother was attired in a black and gold flecked ring Velvet frock inlet with black lace, cobweb sleeves with black velvet hat to match, and carried a bouquet of bronze and lemon chrysanthemums and received the guests. She was assisted by Mrs Haig who was frocked in black velvet relieved with white, and black model hat to tone. She carried a bouquet of heliotrope and white chrysanthemums. The happy couple left for the north on their honeymoon, being accompanied with showf'". 1 ’ of confetti and best wishes from r.eir many friends. For travelling tne bride wore a blue frock, trimmed with white buttons, brown hat <md coat with accessories to match. Mr and Mrs Haig’s future home will be “Hilltop,” Waipango.
