James Thomson, of Longbeach, California, took the lead in the second day’s play in the national open golf championship at Pittsburg, registering 73 and bringing his 36-hole score to 146. PARKS THE WINNER HAGEN’S FIGHTING FINISH. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) New York, June 8. Sam Parks, jun., aged 25, who has been a professional for only three years, won the National Open Championship with 299, his scores for the four rounds being 77, 73, 73, 76. Thomson, yesterday’s leader, finished second with 301, followed by Hagen 302, whose 73 and 76 to-day brought him up into the first flight. Other low scorers were: Shute and Mangrum, 303; Sarazen, Picard and Kruger, 306; Metz and Runyan, 307. The favourites dropping behind included Dutra 308, Cruickshank 309, Brews 312, Wood 312, Laffoon 314, Goodman and Raymelta 316.
