CRASH INTO POLE
CHRISTCHURCH BUSINESS-MAN. DEATH OF MR J. R. HAYWARD, (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, June 10. Mr J- R- Hayward, aged 65, manager of Hayward Brothers, one of the city s best known business men, was killed this morning when his car swerved off the road in Colombo street and struck a tramway pole. Mr Hayward was alone at the time and was coming from his home at Cashmere to town. One theory is that he suffered a heart attack. Mr Hayward was an ex-member of the City Council and Harbour Board, ex-president of the Employers’ Association, and a steward of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club. He was a brother of the Hon. W, Hayward and leaves a wife and one son, who is living in Australia.
