DIPTON NOTES
DRESSMAKING CLASSES. (From Our Correspondent.) Tire meeting sponsored by the W.D.F.U. to inaugurate the dressmaking classes showed that ample support was available to make necessary the formation of two classes to meet on Monday morning and afternoon. The newly-formed Boys’ Brigade held its first practical evening on Saturday when there was a good attendance and a programme of physical exercises, games and gymnastics was gone through. It is expected to go on to other courses of instruction in the near future.
Playing at Dipton, Dipton A defeated Lumsden A at basketball by 24—10 while Dipton B won by 28—2 against Lumsden B at Lumsden. After a fairly even game in which there was no score at half-time Drummond defeated Dipton at football by 6 to nil. A bring and buy sale in aid of library funds was held in the hall on Wednesday, June 5. The function was opened by Mr Johnson who referred to the inestimable benefit that printing had been to the increase of knowledge among the people. Three stalls, produce, cake and sweets, and a work stall did good business during the afternoon, and competitions run by the president, Mrs W. Sinclair, kept everyone amused. The stall-holders were: Cake stall.—Mrs Milligan and Mrs Campbell; produce.—Mrs Smith and Mrs G. McKenzie; work. —Mrs Johnston and Mrs W. Stewart; tearooms.—Mrs McGill and Mrs Buchanan.
In the evening a dance was held at which there was a fair attendance, and during the dance competitions were continued and items of produce, etc., left from the afternoon were disposed of. Music for the dance was supplied by Mrs M. Soper and Mr L. Whittaker, and extras were played by Miss K. Shand and'Mr G. McKenzie. The financial result should be vary gratifying to the library committee, the total sum of £l5 16/- being cleared. Credit is due especially to the president and secretary who worked untiringly to make it a success.
The competitions resulted: Cake, Miss E. McCurdy and Mrs W. L. Whittaker; picture, Mr S. Brown, Balfour; dinner, Mrs J. Giles; cake, Miss M. Finlayson; candle-fighting, Mrs W. Sinclair; quoits, Mrs Murray-Menzies; darts, Miss G. Stewart; nail-driving, I Miss R. Wilson; candle blowing, Miss E. 1 Macdonald.
