HOME MISSION
ANNIVERSARY TEA. Saturday evening last marked another milestone in Sister Alice’s many achievements when the fifth Sunday School anniversary tea of her mission was held in Everybody’s Hall. Under the guidance of Sister Alice the ladies’ committee, Mesdames J. T. Carswell, Scammell, H. Prouse and Robbie, showed what a labour of love could do. Jellies, cakes and sandwiches were supplied by friends and these ladies soon had them placed to the best advantage on the three long tables which filled the room. As 5 o’clock started to creep round so the patter of feet began to be heard on tne adjacent staircase. One table was reserved for the mothers and this was soon filled with the fond parents of the happy boys and girls who did justice to the good things provided on the remaining tables. The waiters had a busy time filling cups with tea, replenishing cake dishes and attending to the general welfare of the guests. Two hundred mouths had to be fed and the organization of this effort reflected great credit on all concerned. After tea, when the tables had been cleared, a community sing was indulged in. The young voices, together with those of the older folk, were soon heard in some of those glorious old Sunday school hymns which are so well-known to -the English-speaking world.
At the close Mr Longuet spoke on behalf of Sister Alice and referred to the good work done by the mission. It had filled a place in the community, he said, the need of which had been felt for quite a long time. No one could do more than Sister Alice was doing and no one was more loved than her.
The response to the call for cheers left no one in doubt as to the feelings of all those present.
