Mining Applications. At a sitting of the Gore Warden’s Court before Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., yesterday three applications by the Waipapa Beach Gold Dredging Company for special sea beach claims were recommended for consent. An application by James Mutch for an extended alluvial claim of two acres, Waikaia Survey District, was granted. Funeral of Mr James Beattie. The funeral of the late Mr James Beattie which took place on Saturday was conducted by the Rev, A. H. Wallace, a pioneer minister of the Gore Congregational Church and lifelong friend of the Beattie family. The large cortege to the Gore cemetery included the Mayor of Gore and members of the Gore Borough Council and Southland County Council. The pall-bearers were Messrs Herries, Oswald and Gerald Beattie (sons), George and William McKenzie and John Thomson (nephews). o '—O —~o Annual Reunion. Mr J. P. O’Sullivan presided at the annual reunion of the Gore branch of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association which was held on Saturday evening. With the loyal toast honoured, Mr H. Mclntyre proposed the toast of the Post and Telegraph Department. Gore, he said, was fortunate in being served by a good staff: Mr M. M. Simpson responded and said that few recognized the magnitude of the department, which, besides general P. and T. matters, was forced to take charge of a wide variety of schemes. This spoke volumes for the adaptability of the employees. Mr R. Teller proposed the toast of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association, which was responded to by Mr G. Robinson. The toast of the visitors was proposed by Mr O’Sullivan and the response by Messrs G. Hayden (Clyde) and J. Bond (Gore). During the evening items were contributed by Messrs P. Kelly, J. Nolan, A. Smith and I. C. Millar.
