“I think the time has arrived when the farmers should establish a bank of their own,” asserted one of those present at the annual provincial conference of the Pelorus District Farmers’ Union at Havelock, w the conference was asked by the chairman if there was any further business. There was silence for a moment, but only for a moment. “We haven’t got any darned money to put into it,” declared another farmer feelingly,‘amidst loud laughter—and that was the end of the suggestion.
