FATAL INJURY
RUGBY PLAYER’S DEATH. KNOCKED IN TACKLE. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, June 9. A Rugby player, Charles Connor Estall, aged 23, died in the Lewisham Hospital on Saturday night as a result of an injury received while playing for Petone in a first division junior match against the Wellington Club at Petone on Saturday afternoon. During the match, which is said to have been hard but clean, Estall tackled a Wellington player low and, in doing so, was struck on the side of his head by an opponent’s knee. First aid was rendered and it was thought that the accident was not serious. Estall watched for a short time from the sideline, but later developed more serious symptoms and was taken to the hospital. Illis is the second young player who has died from injuries received on the Rugby field at Wellington this season.
