TRIBUTES PAID
LATE MRS McCOMBS. II ■ ■ f ** BODY LIES IN STATE. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, June 8. Citizens of all ranks joined in paying a tribute to the memory of Mrs E. K. McCombs, M.P., Whose funeral took place this afternoon. From 11 o’clock in the morning the body lay in state in the Council Chambers and from then until the coffin left for the Waimairi Cemetery hundreds of men and women filed through the doors of the building to pay their respects, while thousands lined the route along which the funeral procession passed on its way in the afternoon to the Waimairi Cemetery. The Government was represented by the Hon. John Bitchener and there were also present the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) and the city councillors, members of Parliament of both parties, representatives of Trade Unions, the Labour Party, local bodies and many other organizations with which Mrs McCombs’ work had brought her into contact; An impressive tribute was paid by workers of the city, particularly some 300 members of trade unions heading the funeral procession from the Council Chambers to the boundary of the .city while the employees of the Tramway Board, of which Mrs McCombs was a member, formed a guard of honour.
