Autumn
—Highly Commended. —
It is early morning and the stillness is very beautiful. Even the river as it slips around the bend between banks clothed in a flaming glory of colour, seems quieter than usual, and only an occasional twitter from a bird is to be heard. On one side of the river lie fields of crisp, brittle wheat. Down in a hollow lies a homestead surrounded by a hedge of trees. The leaves of the creepers have turned from green to brown and gold. Yes, autumn has come, all nature seems to tell us. The shadowy queen has dressed in russet brown and enters blowing a bugle to herald in autumn. —3 marks to Cousin Ruth Finlay (13), Stewart street.
