A Fire
—Commended. — “Listen! Is that not the fire bell?” “Yes, it is.” These words were shouted out by some children as they ran down Don street to the scene of the fire. A two-storeyed house was ablaze and the gallant firemen were working tremendously hard to fight back the spreading blaze. , . , . , Spectators were gathering to watch the flames go shooting into the cloudless sky. Really it was a beautiful scene to look upon. , . After half an hour’s hard work the
fire died down a little, but alas! What ruins were remaining. There was only five chimneys standing. Just then the owners of the house came and looked upon it with amazement. Had they not just left it two hours before to go up town, and now they were looking upon smouldering embers of their passed home. —2 marks to Cousin Daphne Jones (14), 52 McMaster street.
